State Journal RegisterSenate committee advances bill to reduce number of local governments, “Illinois has nearly 7,000 units of local government, ranging from cities and counties to library and drainage districts. Pennsylvania is second with about 4,870 units.  Timothy Bramlet, representing the Township Officials of Illinois, said the proposed system would take decisions out of the hands of local residents.” 

  • Chicago Sun-TimesSweeping school-reform bill targets school day, strikes, bad teachers, “Senate Democrats on Wednesday announced a sweeping education-reform deal that could lengthen the school day and year in Chicago, streamline the dismissal of poorly performing teachers statewide and add new hurdles before teachers can strike and get tenure.”
  • Belleville News DemocratSenate passes workers’ comp bill by vote of 59-0, “A bill that would prevent payment of workers’ compensation benefits to any person injured while engaging in a forcible felony, aggravated DUI or reckless homicide passed the Senate on Wednesday by a vote of 59-0.”
