Statewide update—April 6, 2011

Bloomington PantagraphIllinois House approves murder registry legislation, “Rosenberg said the registry, similar to one already in place for sex offenders, will ensure Illinoisans know where people convicted of first-degree murder are residing once they are freed.”

    • State Journal RegisterJudge says pharmacists can refuse to dispense ‘morning-after’ pills, “A Sangamon County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday struck down a 6-year-old state rule that required Illinois pharmacies to dispense emergency contraception.  The Illinois attorney general’s office plans to appeal Belz’s ruling, which the judge hasn’t yet extended to apply to all pharmacies in the state.”
    • Chicago TribuneStone, Lyle lose as Chicago City Council gets makeover, “When the hands come off the holy books at swearing-in ceremonies next month, Chicago will have a City Council churned by turnover of more than a third of its 50 members along with a new mayor, Rahm Emanuel.”
